Lately I have been really fascinated with some Childrens Book Illustrators and their art. One I have been following for a few months is Eric Orchard. His whispy pen hatching is mezmorizing.

I am trying to catch up on posting new sketches, So I will be posting some stuff over the next few days to catch up. ;)
It has gotten to the point now where I mostly use the Pentel Pocket Brush for all my inking. I really like the thing and I am looking into a better brush pen.

The bottom one I didnt like how it was coming out...Sooooo I ripped it up an threw it in the recycling bin. Now, I regret it. I dont think it looks so bad anymore. LOL.
I think since I have this copy I will restart it and salvage it.

Trying to get back to where I was and I am back to using color. It just adds soooo much to a sketch or picture.
This was done with Markers and colored pencil. There was a little bit of ink pen in this but not much. I think I might be getting back to my "no black ink" kick. The guy with the Rocket Launcher and wings came out fantastic.
Again, this is not digital its only Markers and Colored Pencils :)

Elektra is 15 x 15 inches and painted in acrylic. and it has a little bit o' colored pencils in there.

Now I am working on a Wonder Woman piece for another charitable auction that helps abused women and children. I'll post that in a few days. :)

Well..after talking with someone on Sunday they asked me the question, "Do you know who your audience is?!".
And I thought I did. But after Posting a few new sketches/drawings on Deviantart.com that question still rang true in my head. I got immediate hits on my new pics i posted. So I went to the people's profiles to view their information and look at their other favorite pictures on their area. I had been wrong about who my audience was this whole time.
I never realized how close my art was to manga/anime rather than boring old american comics(thank god!).
So there you have it. My little epiphany.

Did some drawing today.
I drew this in pen (yes! no pencil first! just pen!) then added color with marker and colored pencil. I put a little white highlights in things with a white gel pen. I really like these.

I did this for a friend of mine. I am happy with how it came out. The trick is scanning it in pieces and putting it back together. I also struggled with it looking EXACTLY like the original. Lets see if it worked.

Ok! Sooooo....
Here I have this thing that I do with my sketchbook. I do grey tones. However, I do use Copic or Prismacolor markers and are they costly per marker. I mean $4-7 a pop per marker. So here I am playing with some ink washes trying to get the same results that I can get with a marker. A bottle of ink or tube of watercolor is like $4, but will last a lot longer than 1 marker.
I think it came out pretty cool. oh, and the eyes of the 2 peeps with color...is Marker. LOL!

Today I tried out my Tablet again with photoshop on a black and white scan of this picture before I colored it with markers.

Im pretty happy with it. Some of the stray white chicken scratch is me trying to get used to some mark making with the Stylus and tablet. Hope you guys like it as much as I do.
